  • Fewer Meetings in 2003 - Next Meeting Feb 4th
  • The NMMS Board decided that the club will continue holding regular meetings at the NM Museum of Natural History on the first Tuesday of most months. We will skip the months of January and March, which means that our next regular meeting will be at 7:30pm on February 4th, 2003.
  • Dues for 2003
  • Payment for 2003 NMMS membership is due no later than the February, 2003 Meeting.
  • Members may pay at an upcoming meeting or send a check to NMMS Treasurer Sharon Chong.
  • Please make checks Payable to NMMS.
  • NMMS Dues are $20 and NAMA dues are $32. (NAMA membership is optional for NMMS members.) Those who prefer membership in both clubs may submit one check for $52, payable to NMMS.
  • New Newsletter Editor
  • At the Sep02 Meeting I explained my decision to retire at the end of this year as Editor of the NMMS Newsletter. I recognize the irony in this statement, since my publications have already become both smaller and sparser during the last several months. Fortunately, Ann Floyd has offered to take over the editing and publication duties.
  • Before returning to New Mexico, Ann edited several issues of the Arizona Fun-Gi, newsletter of the Arizona Mushroom Club. She now wants to apply her talents toward production of a new (and undoubtedly better) News publication for NMMS.
  • Ann is trying to come up with a title for the new publication--something a bit more imaginative than the "NMMS Newsletter." If you have a suggestion for a new name, please pass it on to Ann.
  • Website
  • I will continue to provide current and pertinent information on the MycoWest Website. I encourage members to visit www.mycowest.org for current news, club info, and more. Ann and I have discussed including on the Website an online copy of her new publication. We will relay details as soon as we have them.
  • Holiday Potluck
  • Thank you to Norma Lynn for welcoming us to her home in Pojoaque on December 14th. The turnout for the gathering was such that the group mingled comfortably in her cozy abode. Cool wine and soft candlelight set the mood for a delightful evening of lively conversation and wonderful food.
  • Performance in Los Alamos - Dec 16th
  • Norma Lynn will be performing a lunchtime concert at Fuller Lodge and encourages NMMS members to attend.
  • Begins at 12 noon on Monday, Dec 16th
  • Fuller Lodge in Los Alamos
  • Program will be a blend of Traditional music and songs from Musical Theatre.
  • There is no charge for the concert, although donations are welcome.
  • A Note From Carlo
Garlo Gislimberti sent me the following note, which I thought the membership would enjoy. I've included a slightly edited copy:
  • I Just came back from an International Convention in Rome, where I dropped off some dry porcini mushroom to the President of Italy, Carlo Azelio Ciampi.
  • This year we did not find any mushrooms up here, but you will never quess what happened to me. I was in Florida at Key West for my son's wedding the 12th of October. We played a round of golf, and on the 13th hole I found some Lepiota procera, very popular in Italy, at the southernmost point of the USA. Pretty cool for a mountain man.
  • Mushroom the Journal
  • Mushroom, the Journal of Wild Mushrooming is alive and well and will continue as the excellent publication that so many satisfied subscribers have come to expect. Leon Shernoff, an involved member of NAMA and the Illinois Mycological Association, has taken on editorship of M the J. Read more at Mushroom's Website: www.mushroomthejournal.com.
  • Taylor Lockwood's New DVD
  • The Long awaited video DVD of Taylor's show "Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi" is finished. For information go to: www.fungiphoto.com/Treasury/DVD.html
