The Gulf States Mycological Society will hold its winter foray November 30 -
December 2 at the Louisiana State Arboretum and Chicot State Park near Ville
Platte, Louisiana.
Ville Platte is located 40 miles south of Alexandria
off I-49 near the center of the state.
The Arboretum has over 300 acres of
varied topography and natural growth.
The Park surrounds Lake Chicot with
several miles of trails through mixed hardwood forests. Rustic and modular
cabins and lodge are reserved, and camping is available.
Our guest mycologist, Dr. Andrew Methven of
Eastern Illinois University,
will speak to us on the genus Lactarius.
Ursula Pohl, NAMA Mycophagy Chairperson, will provide a hands-on
demonstration of preparing and cooking mushrooms.
The approximate cost of $180/single
$256/double will include lodging, Friday potluck dinner, Saturday breakfast
and dinner buffet.
Deadline for registration is November 13.
