Contact: David Wallis
Destination: Sandias - east side
Meet at: Doc Long's Picnic Area parking lot (see GPS below)
Time: 10:00 am
Conditions:
  • Remaining snow is melting quickly - mostly dry at 7400 ft
  • Snowline approx 8600 ft.
  • Some fresh snow from precipitation Thurs & Friday - melting quickly
  • Participants:
  • David & Terri Wallis (trip leaders)
  • Nancy Weber
  • Roslyn Block
  • Ruth Bronson
  • Carolyn Buskirk
  • Sharon Chong
  • Peggy Gorresen
  • Mark Kalin
  • Marjorie Lutz
  • Gary Runyan
  • Ted Stampfer
  • Laurie Lange (guest)

  • Notes:
  • I suggest that those wishing to carpool meet at the Natural History Museum at or before 9:30.
  • We may head from Doc Long's up to Balsam Glade, which is just past the Ski Area. Although drying quickly, the area still has substantial snowbanks in shaded spots.
  • Bring water and a lunch
  • Dress for warm weather, but prepare for cold; bring a light sweater or windbreaker, as well as a heavy coat. We may be running around at 8,000+ feet, and it can turn cold in a hurry.
  • Footwear should be appropriate for walking in mud and melting snowbanks.
  • There is a $3 daily parking fee in the Sandias. Those who think they will be frequenting the Sandias might consider purchasing an annual pass for $30 (good for 2 vehicles). You can get a permit at the main Cibola NF office: 2113 Osuna Rd NE, ABQ. For more information visit the Cibola NF webpage: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/cibola.
  • GPS
  • For you GPS buffs, I will try to include the coördinates for future meeting places and foray sites.
  • I prefer to use UTM coörds, but if anyone insists on a need for Lat/Long, I can include them as well.
