NMMS Field Trip Report - 20 May 2001

Locations: Los Alamos burn areas
Meeting Place:
Los ALamos location SH1
After turning onto Pajarito Ski Area road, travel approx 300 meters to a lot
near the "Pajarito Cafe" sign.
Time: Met at Loc SH1 at 10:00 am
Conditions: Mild temperatures and dry ground in spite of recent rain.
Species (or Genera) Found: Abundant Geopyxis, Peziza, &
Anthracobia; Occassional Coprinus (small--not comatus),
Morchella, & LBM's; 1 ea Pluteus cervinus & Polyporus sp.

Notes:
Purposes of this trip were to clarify the Study Plot locations &
boundries and to define the procedures for time spent in and out of the
field.
The weather was remarkably pleasant: temps in the 70's or maybe low
80's.
Morchella specimens were sparse at best. One place to look is beneath
the straw thrown down for erosion control following the CG Fire (the straw is
retaining some moisture). No suggestions for habitat or elevation.
Remember! Mushrooming on Bandelier land is Prohibited.
