Boletes Wanted
We are looking for whole fruitbodies of Boletus edulis or similar boletes that are called B.edulis in your area [New Mexico, Colorado]. We need the entire fruitbody because we need to look at all the tissues microscopically to compare with other specimens to see if there is any variation in features. We will then extract DNA from the material and look at genetic differences as well, with the intent of tracing genetic differences to any perceived morphological differences. Hence, good, intact specimens are needed.

If you run across any, please just cut them from top to bottom, remove a little tissue from clean cap flesh (away from any larvae) and put the tissue (5 mm cubes is enough) in a small sealable container with ethanol (Everclear will work for this purpose).

Dry the remainder of the specimen without slicing it up into too many pieces, and ship both the dried material and the alcohol-preserved material to me at the address below.
